‘Remember the Titans’ is a film set in Virginia, USA, in 1971. This film is about the integration of a school football team named the Titans. Throughout the film we see the challenges this team goes through to bring the team together to support and admire each other at the end.
In the beginning of the film, Gerry Bertier isn’t able to see from another
player’s perspective. He is aggressive towards others, hence the other players feeling intimidated by Gerry. Despite his racist and irrational views, Gerry learns that he must change how he sees his black teammates and coach. This is when we see Gerry begins to mature and see his teammates as his brothers. Gerry is a strong leader in the film, he helped to make sure the team worked together to ensure that they would win the state championships. After the big game, Gerry gets in a car accident. In the hospital, the team is told that Gerry is paralysed from the waist down. Despite being paralysed, Gerry is still an important character as he has a large impact on the team. Gerry is now a respectful, open-minded and responsible character.
