Business Research Process
Business research is something that is done in every company in one form or another. I have had my own fair share of experience with business research and I have to admit that it is not as easy as doing research papers in school. I worked for a convenience store and had to do business research at least once a month in order to try to keep my store current with other stores and our customers.
The hardest part of it all was the beginning step of clearly defining the purpose. When we had ideas, they were vague. We knew in a roundabout way what it was that we wanted to accomplish, but we had a hard time trying to get it down to …show more content…
specifics. Personally I think this was the longest and hardest part of everything that we did.
After we finally got the clearly defined purpose we then sat down together and decided on exactly how we were going to do the research and what we were going to use.
We did this in order to keep everyone on the same page and not going off on a wild goose chase. In the past we were very lax in this area and in the end had to throw out a lot of the research due to it was not from a credible source and or it was way off base.
Once we were doing research on possibly bringing in those little roses in glass tubes for customers. We had several people say they wanted them, but at the same time we had others that did not. After doing our research on them we decided that it was against our ethical standards to allow them into our stores. While they were pretty, they were commonly used as drug pipes. We as a team decided that we could not willingly offer these things in our stores; it would be saying that we condoned the use of drugs.
Before we would implement anything new in our stores we would sit down and go over everything that we had found. We would actually pick over it all with a fine tooth comb just to make sure that we got everything that we needed and that we could properly present it in a way that showed we had all the
facts.
I have learned that business research is more than just saying here is an idea, now let’s do it. You have to have a solid idea and really look into it in every possible way that it can be done, what it takes and what is needed. Ideas are more than just something on paper, it has to become real in order to do anything with it.
