3.0 RESEARCH METHODOLOGY In this chapter, the research discusses the procedure to the adopted in carrying out this study. These procedures explained in Anyanwu, (1994) include the following: Sources of data, area of coverage, sample plan, sample unit, sample frame, sample size and sample procedures and question aimed designed. Those procedures were also evidence in the work of Anyanwu (2000). It will also show how data are gathered and analyzed.
3.1 AREA OF COVERAGE This research would have covered the three modes of transport (road, air and sea) but because of inaccessibility to the existing sea-port in Lagos and Port-Harcourt, the researcher only covered two modes of transport, road and air. The road transport that was surveyed included ABC Transport, Chisco transport and Dan Dollars Transport Company out of other road transport companies in Nigeria. Three airline companies that run domestic routes such as Sosoliso, Chanchangi and Arik airline companies were also studied.
3.2 SOURCES OF DATA The researcher makes use of both primary and secondary sources in collecting data. This however, measures the characteristics of the population in the method consisting of observation, survey and personal interviews.
3.3 SAMPLE PLAN This is the framework used as a guide in collecting and analyzing elements of the study. It involves the population and sample size. The sample plan however, includes the staff of the selected transportation companies in this study and the travelers who are the respondents. In this case, questionnaires were administered on the travelers. Oral interview was also conducted on the travelers to get information that were thought to be relevant in the research work. This is because for the form the tourists who travel all the time. This was considered better than the administering questionnaire which some of them would not respond to the interview was conducted to travelers on the booking desk or after
