CHAPTER 1
The problem and its background Why do graduating students have a hard time choosing courses? Most of the graduating students these days have a difficult time in choosing what course to get on college. They are usually influenced by the decisions of their parents and their friends/peers, so most of the time they end up getting the course that they don’t really like and forced to shift courses.
INTRODUCTION Decision making, according to James Stoner, is the “process of identifying and selecting a course of action to solve a specific problem”. Whether one likes it or not, it will always become part of their daily lives, on how to decide what to eat on breakfast, what to say, what place to go, and so forth and so on. Even in researching, reporting, facebooking, posting, a decision is always made. Also according to Trewartha and Newport, “decision making involves the selection of a course of action from among two or more possible alternatives in order to arrive at a solution for a given problem."
Nowadays, graduating students have a hard time in choosing the right course for them. They usually ask themselves, what is the right course for me? If I would take this course in college, would I be happy? These questions will always come up from their heads when dealing with course decision making. Choosing the appropriate course will greatly affect the person itself. It will affect the person’s behavior, attitude, personality, lifestyle, thinking, and sometimes even their friends. It will also shape the person for the future.
This research paper will address the factors that affect course decision making of the graduating students of Elizabeth Seton School – South. This research will be a guide to the students themselves, and their parents as well regarding course decisions. This study will also discuss the possible solutions that the parents and the school itself can do to help the
