Chapter 1: Introduction
Problem:
“Half of all adults in the United States use a social networking site, compared to six years ago when the usage for social sites was only 5% of the population.” (Pew Research Center)
Purpose:
My purpose is educate fellow peers on the purpose that social networks serve to society and different reasons on why society is so enamored with social networks. To also explain how it plays a role in our life, and to explain the effects overuse and addiction to social networks.
Research Question:
What causes the American society to use social networks to such an extent that it becomes a part of our everyday life? Are social networks a new outlet for people to express themselves in ways that their daily life doesn’t? What makes social networks so appealing? What kind of effects, both positive and negative, can overuse of social networks cause?
Introduction:
What would the internet be, if no one every browsed the World Wide Web? Would it be similar to an empty coffee shop, full of caffeine but no sleep deprived customers? Social networks have become a gargantuan part of our daily lives. Hike a mountain? Facebook it. Visit a new restaurant and try a new, delicious food? Instagram it. Our society has become so involved with owning new technology, and with showing off ownership. Americans are prideful at best,
