Aromatherapy
After reading multiple chapters in the textbook from this course, I have been introduced to multiple ways of healing that I personally was not familiar with. Some of these CAM therapies from foreign countries were very odd and different from anything else I have heard of. These out of the box healing methods mentioned by Fontaine in the textbook seemed to have very little if any evidence based studies that support the usefulness of some of these therapies. Yet for some I have found many studies with successful results that support specific CAM therapies. Aromatherapy uses essential oils in order to help heal every aspect of the patient (mind, body and soul), it is based on olfactory stimuli and there are specialized olfactory cells that work to connect odors instantly with the brain (Fontaine, 95). The provider can use an array of essential oils from multiple plants,flowers and fruits. The different oils are supposed to provide a different healing effect ranging from, sedation and alertness to decongestion and anti-inflammatory. These above effects tend to be helpful for patients who have sleeping disorders or other problems such as sinus issues or chronic inflammation. This type of alternative healing will not cure diseases or cancer but it will help patients with less severe issues. The studies have shown that it is most effective when it is used frequently and consistently in order to allow the body to adjust. The use and implementation of aromatherapy will impact stakeholders and consumers in a positive way both medically and finically, due to the cheap price and also the effectiveness of the
