Making choices is the act of deciding between two possibilities whether it is good or bad, right or wrong. Choices are made daily and these choices can range from getting married or deciding to eat that delicious frosted covered cupcake. Making the wrong choices can get a person into trouble. Difficult choices can lead to a dire or beneficial situation, even if it mean making the choices that could lead to trouble in the future. There are those who do not bend or succumb to the ideas and opinions of others. Those who do not bend have wills that are shaped by their values that they hold dear and even in dire situations stand firm against the peer pressure. Thomas More was a man of virtue and moral, who stuck to his beliefs in the harshest conditions. During an era where the people were ruled by an individual with absolute power; Thomas More stood his ground against the king’s opinions. During King Henry the VIII’s rule he had betrothed six wives and the first two beheaded, because the wives did not bare him a son. The movie takes place when King Henry the VIII separated from the Roman Catholic Church, because the church did not agree with the divorce of Catherine of Aragon. Thomas More in the movie seems to be in good terms with the king as shown in the scene when they speak in a friendly manner in front of the More’s manor. Thomas More is seen as a man of virtue and moral by his peers, and a man of God, The king believed that gaining the consent of Thomas More would make the people believe that his divorce with Catherine of Aragon was just. Thomas More is conflicted with this friendship with the king or his will to keep silent on the matter of the king’s marriage. Thomas More knows that if his opinion were to be heard by the king it would be seen as treason and his head would surely be chopped
