Asthma is a lung condition that causes difficulty breathing.

B) Describe how the organ(s) and/or tissue(s) are affected by this health problem? Asthma affects the bronchial tubes, also known as airways. With normal breathing air flows in through the nose or mouth and then into the trachea (windpipe) but with asthma their airways get inflamed making muscle around them to tighten up.

•Exercise-induced asthma, Occupational asthma, Allergy-induced asthma
•Shortness of breath
•Chest tightness or pain
•Trouble sleeping caused by shortness of breath, coughing or wheezing
•A whistling or wheezing sound when exhaling (wheezing is a common sign of asthma in children)
•Coughing or wheezing attacks that are worsened by a respiratory virus, such as a cold or the flu

Treatment usually involves learning to recognize your triggers, taking steps to avoid them and tracking your breathing to make sure your daily asthma medications are keeping symptoms under control. In case of an asthma flare-up, you may need to use a quick-relief inhaler, such as albuterol.Medications for you depend on a number of things, your age, symptoms, asthma triggers and what works best to keep your asthma under control.
