Physical therapists work with patients who have injuries or health-related conditions that limit their
ability to move and function effectively. These conditions can prohibit people from participating in hobbies or sports. However, they can also cause difficulty with regular, daily activities, such as going to work, moving around the house, or taking care of their families. Limitations of this nature may cause a significant amount of anxiety and frustration to the patients. As a physical therapist, I want to help more people get back to what is important to them and improve their overall quality of life. Earning a physical therapy degree will give me the opportunity to have a rewarding career through which I can make a difference to a larger population.
As an Athletic Training student, I work with athletes, diagnosing and treating their injuries. During my clinical experience, I realized that developing rehabilitation programs for patients is one of my favorite aspects of the field. As a physical therapist, I will be able to treat a wider range of conditions, and develop personalized rehabilitation programs for my patients. Moreover, it is imperative to be caring and compassionate when working with patients, while also setting honest and realistic expectations. Every patient is different, and treatment plans must be unique to each individual's specific limitations and goals. I like the ability to be creative when designing rehabilitation plans and seeing the patients’ excitement as they progress and get closer to achieving their own goals.
I believe that I will excel in the Plymouth State University DPT program. I have worked diligently during my four years as an undergraduate, and plan to continue to devote myself to developing the skills necessary for my chosen profession. I deeply care about the well-being of my patients and want to facilitate their improvement. Using the proficiencies I have developed from the Athletic Training program at Plymouth as a foundation, I will put all of my effort into becoming a top-quality physical therapist. While striving to succeed in classes and clinical settings, I will take advantage of opportunities to work with other professionals, as well as peers, so that I am comfortable and self-assured as a clinician and my patients have confidence in my abilities.
As a current student at Plymouth State University, I have seen first-hand the level of expertise and dedication of the professors in the DPT program. Their commitment to student success along with my drive to achieve my goal makes me confident that I will excel in this program. Additionally, as a student in Plymouth's DPT program and as professional in the field, I will act as an advocate for both my patients and my profession. Furthermore, I will work collaboratively with other practitioners to provide high quality patient-centered care. Working as a physical therapist, I will be able to help promote a healthy, active lifestyle for my patients.
