Music is important part of the Carnival because without the music you just sit there and walk around hitting kids and that's not fun. A type of Music they play during the Carnival is Bomba
Y Plena. Bomba is a puerto Rican musical genre for dance. People really aren't sure from exactly where it's from but they agree that it might be from west africa. Plena music is a genre of Folk music and it has roots from the african music and dance. They sing and chant different song too and listen to other live music.
During the Carnaval people dress up as Vejigante’s. The Vejigante’s job is to scare people by dressing up in scary costumes and masks and whack kids with a dried up cow’s bladder that has been blown up like a balloon known as a Vejiga. Vejigant’s hit the children to get all the bad spirits and evil that might be around them.To be a Vegigant’e your costume consits of scary, colorful looking masks with horns made out of paper mache. The costume part is made out of cloth and includes the colors of the Puerto Rican flag and the colors of the Ponce flag and your Vejiga.
