Human-Animal Bond
It has been proven that animals make a positive difference in people's lives. In fact, there are some individuals whom rely on animals in order to get through their daily lives. Animals, such as guide dogs, provide many benefits for visually impaired individuals and individuals with health issues. The concept of animals as companions to humans is ancient; however, it is only during the past thirty years that researchers have begun to study the human-animal bond. Many organizations have found that aside from providing guidance and support to individuals animals have demonstrated to be valued companions and improve people's quality of lives. Overall, animals better the emotional and physical health of people, and give them their unconditional love and friendship. Researchers have looked at relationships between the human-animal bond and psychological factors. Researchers used attachment theory and social support to explain how attachment to pets may reduce loneliness and diminish stress. These finding are significant given that the feelings of loneliness and stress can lead to depression.
