Malala Yousafzai was born on July 12, 1997, in Mingora, the largest city in the Swat Valley in what is now the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province of Pakistan. At a very young age, Malala developed a thirst for knowledge. For years her father, a passionate education advocate himself, ran a learning institution in the city, and school was a big part of Malala's family.In 2007, when Malala was ten years old, the situation in the Swat Valley rapidly changed for her family and community. The Taliban began to control the Swat Valley and quickly became the dominant socio-political force throughout much of northwestern Pakistan. Girls were banned from attending school, and cultural activities like dancing and watching television were prohibited. Suicide attacks were widespread, and the group made its opposition to a proper education for girls a cornerstone of its terror campaign. By the end of 2008, the Taliban had destroyed some 400 schools. When Malala was 15 she was shot by a member of the Taliban terrorist group. She survived after being airlifted to a hospital and now she is an advocate for women's education. She speaks in front of huge crowds and has wrote books to try to make people see her side. When Malala was growing up the Taliban didn't want women to get an education so when she refused to stop learning, she was shot. The book also narrates her recovery in the hospital. In the book Malala wrote, “When the whole world is silent, even one voice becomes powerful.” This quote to me means that when nobody can or wants to change anything the one person who goes against the current, they become very powerful. She wrote the quote because her story is very influential and she uses this to her advantage. She is now recognized as an international hero all because of what happened to
her. Second, Malala Yousafzai's text Malala´s Magic Pencil helps young kids understand her point. This book is about how, Malala wanted to use a magic pencil to fix minor problems such as the smell of her city and getting an extra hour of sleep in the mornings, but as she grew older she saw that there are bigger problems at hand. She said If she ever found a magic pencil she would use it to fix the World.
