Have you ever known that behind those older television set screens that there were Neon tubes inside? Ever since it was discovered, Neon has become more and more popular. From TV tubes to Cryogenics to Neon signs to even lasers. Neon has been a vast element that can be used widely because of its unique chemical and physical properties.
Neon has many interesting properties and they include: Neon’s atomic number is ten. It has an atomic mass of roughly 20.180. Represented with the symbol Ne. Neon is in group 18, period 2, and is one of the eight noble gases in the periodic table. It was discovered by Sir William Ramsay and Morris M. Travers in 1898 in London, England. Neon is a rare gas from the atmosphere. It is non-toxic and chemically inert. Neon does not present danger to the environment because it can’t form any compounds due to it being chemically unreactive. Neon can pose some mild to severe health hazards. When inhaling Neon, you will get simple asphyxiant (being deprived of oxygen). When it comes in contact with your skin in liquid form, you will develop a frostbite. As your eyes are in contact with liquid Neon, you will get a frostbite. The inhaling of excessive amounts of Neon can result in vomiting, dizziness, nausea, loss of consciousness, and …show more content…
It is one of the many elements in the periodic table. Each is unique and different from each other. For example Neon is a colorless and odorless gas, however, when it conducts electricity the element turns red, which is what you see on signs, lasers, indicators, and more. Neon is a chemically inert element which is valued because it does not react with other elements. Ever since Neon was found, it has been used for numerous things and it has become one of the many vast elements of the periodic table. Little did Ramsay and Travers know that what they discovered changed the lives of several generations
