Nutcracker's Panic
On December 18, 2015 I had heard once that day that it was snowing. That crisp, pure snow was falling right outside the theater where 50 dancers, including myself, were rushing to get ready. I didn’t get to see it that day, but I wish I had. I was with two of the best friends you could ever ask for. Each of us was dressed in our own version of an 1800's party dress, like we always are when we preform Tchaikovsky's Classic Nutcracker. Abby's having an odd flower design over deep burgundy, Jadyn's had a full blue dress with an abnormal piece of cloth working as a chest plate, and mine could be used as a purple and gold checker board based on the pattern. Abby, Jadyn, and I were setting up the last of our props when we realized that a doll was missing.
The orchestra had already started playing the extended prelude. All three of us got a little worried, what we didn’t realize was Jadyn got some additional worry then we did. As we were running around I heard Jadyn's breathing gain a depth to it. "Guys," I noticed she spoke in a shaky breath. Buy the time we had gotten to her, she was in a full-blown anxiety attack. I was screaming in my head, get her to sit down and someone has to get Matt! When we finally sat her down a stagehand came up to us and reported that they found the doll and had put it in it's place. I saw that he had a headset and before I had comprehended it Abby was almost yelling, "Can you please get Matt and tell him a dancer is having a Panic attack right now!" I had realized by the time Matt had reached us, the ballet had started and we almost had to go on. Matt was on the floor embracing Jadyn, who by now was bawling her eyes
