As stated by The National Child Traumatic Stress Network, ‘‘Physical abuse is the second most common form of child maltreatment. Legal definitions vary from state to state but, broadly child physical abuse is any physical act by a caregiver that results in a child being hurt or injured”. Also, physical abuse manifests itself at times of stress and most abusive caregiver experience abuse as a young child or adult themselves. Because parents or caregivers normally are much stronger than a child physical abuse can lead to severe brain damage, disfigurement, blindness, crippling, death and carry emotional scars for a lifetime. However, there are times in which the parent or caretaker my not have intended to hurt the child and in
some cases the injury may have resulted from over discipline or corporal punishment. None the less if the child is injured the act is considered abuse (Rein 13).
