The Unsinkable Molly Brown Molly Brown is my great American and here’s why. She was born July 18, 1867 (Google) in Hannibal Missouri. She was a surviver of the Titanic. After she was put on lifeboat 6 she made them turn back for people who were stranded in the water. After surviving the Titanic she was given the nick name The “Unsinkable Molly Brown.” Molly Brown was a very giving person. She did lots of charity events including working in soup kitchens and lots of other events. She also helped establish the first juvenile court. She was always pushing for better education for children. In 1885 Molly and her husband moved to Leadville, CO. As a teenager she worked on a tobacco plantation. She then married J.J. Brown. In 1887 she had her
first child Lawrence. After this, they moved to Stumphtown to be closer to J.J.’s mining business. J.J. worked as a mine superintendent, discovered gold and they became billionaires. Molly also ran for senate in 1909 (Classes). In 1912 Molly Brown boarded the Titanic in first class. Later in 1912, J.J. died, leaving Molly and the kids with all his money (Prezi). She was always taking trips around the world just for fun. She was able to do so quite frequently because of her wealth. She was given the French Legion of Honor Award in World War 1 for her good citizenship. Molly later died of a brain tumor at age 66 on October 26, 1932 (Prezi). I have spent lots of time researching Molly Brown. I think she’s awesome! I mean think about all the things that she has done for other people than herself!! She saved a lot of peoples lives when she made the lifeboat turn back for stranded people in the water after the Titanic sank. All these reasons and more make Molly Brown a great American.
