There are currently two management styles, which are contemporary and classical.
Stefano Pessina as a CEO is based on a classical management style. Classical management style is based on making your way from the bottom to the top in order to achieve the goal. Walgreens is based on employees making there way from being a customer associate to then moving up. According to Kinicki (2016), “it was not enough for managers to try to be liked; they also needed to be aware of their attitudes toward employees” (p. 51). Stefano Pessina can be categorized within being a Theory Y manager. Him being the CEO of the number 1 drugstore in the United States says it all. According to about Steffano Pessina, “Stefano is well respected for his passion and dedication to the healthcare industry, in which he has played a key role in a career spanning four decades”. As we know Walgreens is a business in which consists of district managers, store managers, assistant managers, customer service associates, etc. in which are all deal with customer satisfactory. This shows that all individuals have positive attitudes and it all comes from the higher person, which Steffano plays a role towards. Walgreens is based on a logo “at the corner of happy and healthy”. Steffano deals with thousands of people whom is part of this Walgreens Corporation and deals with many diverse individuals from not only the United States but also Europe as well. Overall, I find that Steffano goal is to help the health care industry by creating this #1 pharmacy chain going and individuals being well.
