Residential College provides me with the opportunity to learn and respect peers with differing opinions, where friendships forged would prevail over disagreements in debates. Moreover, the nature of residential college encourages the forging of strong and lasting friendships. I am appreciative of the ample opportunities I had for civic engagement and to reach out to people from all walks of life. To me, community involvement serves as a vehicle for inculcating humility, gratitude and respect for others.
Being in the same environment as other socially aware and active students allow me to share and connect with a wider network of students with similar interests. Residential College helps with creating a sense of belonging as it allows me to share my peers' interests and work together towards similar goals. College of Alice and Peter Tan (CAPT) presents itself as a quintessential setting as its focus on active citizenship and community engagement appeals to me.
The society-centric modules will expose us to the different social fabrics, providing us with the opportunity to understand the struggles of our fellow citizens face daily. This would remind us to examine the social and ethical aspect and its impact when solving real-world problems in our respective fields. They can also teach us to see the value of the various communities such as the elderly and migrant communities. With that, we can better understand the importance of forging strong ties within the different components of a society and ensure that our effort to better the society is a comprehensive and interdisciplinary
