Solicitation of these stories are requested of colleagues or staff to tell how their actions have made a meaningful difference in the lives of a Veteran. There is also an I Care Honor Award to recognize staff who go above and beyond the expression of these values. Feedback is also requested by staff for any comments and questions. Tools and resources are provided to promote the expectation of these I Care values by downloading and displaying flyers, videos, posters and I Care guidance for managers and supervisors. The return to the 56th Armored Brigade Combat Team (56th ABCT) as the Deputy Commanding Officer (DCO), has afforded me the opportunity to integrate back into my old unit and reacquaint with great soldiers and officers. The 56th ABCT recently returned from a challenging fifteen month deployment in Afghanistan and is now experiencing additional challenges in their RESET phase. These challenges have brought forth morale issues, potential ethical issues and a vacuum in leadership that has caused the Division Commander to lose confidence in his ability to effectively command the brigade and he informed me that I am immediately taking command of the brigade. My assessment of the 56th ABCT Brigade’s Afghanistan mission, strengths and weaknesses of the officers and senior noncommissioned officers and the report provided by Center for Army Lessons Learned (CALL), I have determined that there are significant challenges and changes that are needed within the organization. Throughout PFC I have learned and gained many new important factors in life whether they are new skills to lifelong friends. Being in PFC has exposed me to new ways of learning and becoming a better leader in the future. From the beginning, I have inherited new skills through the trainings conducted and last minute conflicts on the freshman days of service I have been a part of. The trainings were not just a way of torture, waking up on Saturday mornings dragging myself to work so I can sit there for four hours just to listen to someone talk and instruct us on what to do. Resilience, dedication and leadership are qualities befitting for a successful USMA cadet and a successful Army officer. Resilience is not only an essential quality for becoming a successful cadet or officer, it is also essential for your life. Resilience is the ability to resurrect one’s self from hard times, to never give up, and displays ones mental strength. In the academy I’ve heard that on a cadet’s first year they undergo times of overwhelming stress in tests of emotional stability, perseverance, and ability to organize and perform under stress. With resilience and resolve a cadet will be able to overcome these stressful obstacles. Likewise, discipline is another quality in becoming a successful USMA cadet and a successful Army officer. At times resilience may complement dedication because when one dedicates their self to something, one needs the resolve to continue on with it and never give up. Dedication shows ones loyalty, commitment, and devotion, in which is an important trait when offering one’s service to their country. To finish, a successful USMA cadet and Army officer should have the quality of leadership. As a leader one must offer guidance and work together as a team to get things done efficiently. The assignment is intended to discuss a case I worked on whilst on my final placement and use an analytic stance to discuss the interaction and interventions used with the service user. In order to maintain confidentiality and anonymity of the service users in this case study I will be using pseudonyms for all people involved and mentioned in relation to this case. The assignment will demonstrate professional judgement, accountability of a social worker and the statutory requirements of protection and intervention when working with vulnerable adults. The case study will focus on my work with Sarah throughout my time on placement and assess my principal interventions as well as locating my work within the wider discourses around risk deploying both recovery and exchange models. It will also highlight the strengths and limitations within the process of recovery. Within this case study I will aim to describe and analyse the practice, theories and values that have emerged by carrying out this piece of work. The assignment will critically evaluate my practice with specific reference to the social work skills used. By reflecting on my practice I hope to demonstrate how I have considered issues such as power imbalances and social injustice and how this consideration has assisted me to work in an anti-oppressive, non-judgemental way with the service user involved. Resiliency is an important factor to have present in one’s life. Taking this resiliency quiz opened my eyes to how I am not as resilient as I thought I was. Some of the question asked in this quiz made me assess my own culture, such as gender and sexual orientation. A crucial part of being resilient is realizing what protective factors are present in one’s life. Many of the factors surprised me because I did not even know they were considered protective factors. Identifying the resiliency builders I would like to add to my repertoire was easy because a majority of those builders are not present in my everyday, and I would like to change that.
