Respect to me is a way of showing someone that you think highly of them and very well respect them. It is an important part of life, if a person is respected it makes him feel good and in return that person will respect you. Respect is important to me because if a person didn’t respect anyone they would not be admired. Respecting Non Commissioned Officers is a very important part of the army life. NCO's feel good and feel like they have the power when they are respected and tend to be less disrespectful to their fellow soldiers. There’s an old saying among Army leaders which goes as follows, “Take care of your people, and they will take care of you.” The army strength lies in its people, more than any other single factor of combat readiness. A former Chief of Staff of the army once noted that it’s the way soldiers feel about themselves, their fellow soldiers and their outfit that is most likely to carry the battle. Take in consideration a situation that happened to me today, I was in a guard post around noon; I was disobeying an order given upon us by using an electronic item during my guard shift. One of the Sargent’s who was guarding at the time came up the tower and caught me in the act. Now there’s been two ways this situation could have gone. I could have easily cooperated and have just taken the punishment at the time being, but at the moment I wasn’t thinking and I was aggravated that I was caught. So I felt anger towards the NCO so I started to show no respect for him, and as follows I disrespected an NCO, both by verbal and body language. You see in order for the army to work properly there must be a bond between the leader and those being led, a bond that rest not on authority alone, but on professionalism, good
