Exercise No. Respiratory System I. Introduction Oxygen is a very important element which our body needs. Without oxygen life is not possible without oxygen which helps in producing energies that our body cells need. But, how do we acquire this oxygen needed by the body? It is by the process called Respiration. Respiration is a process of taking in and out of air from the body. There are two kinds of respiration called cellular respiration and external respiration. Cellular respiration takes place within cells and cells use this in producing the basic energy unit or also called as ATP or adenosine triphosphate. Meanwhile, External respiration is the exchange of gas between the atmosphere and the lungs. This experiment is designed in studying how does external respiration happens and what are the other factors that might affect the normal process of respiration. Respiration consists of two processes called Inhalation and Expiration. Inhalation is taking in of air while expiration is the breathing out of it. This process requires a certain procedure and organs or structure to be able to achieve. With the prior knowledge, this experiment aims to identify the following:

* To be able to identify the parts of the respiratory system and identify the function of each. * Determine the different factors that affect the normal breathing process. * To be able to make and use an improvised spirometer and measure respiratory volumes. Studying and observing respiration through proper understanding of the respiratory system is very important because it gives us knowledge on how it works and makes us realize that this system should be taken care of because it gives us a very important thing which is the oxygen.
