Dear Warner Brothers Pictures,
My name is Jimmy Gorman with the Motion Picture Bureau of the OWI. I am glad to be the one to address you about your latest movie called Casablanca. I would like to start by congratulating you on the approval of your film. We will definitely be releasing it to the public soon. I very much enjoyed the story as well as some of your styles and techniques. I analyzed it myself a picked up on some profound symbolism and positive propaganda throughout the film. I have to say that I am very impressed with how you were able to use your characters as symbols that were significant to World War II. We appreciate that you were able to successfully

The Pearl Harbor bombing was such a huge part of our role in World War II, and since Rick represents America, I knew he would have his own Pearl Harbor. Sure enough, Ilsa came back into Rick’s life and was his very own “Pearl Harbor”. It was very easy to pick up on this symbolism because Rick saw her and his attitude completely changed. This was another one of the best representations in the movie. It worked so well because it was so similar to what happened to our country and how we handled the situation afterward. Rick sat down with Ilsa and Victor to have a drink which he had never done before. To me this was a sign that Rick was suddenly changing his ways. This single event changed everything, just like the bombing of Pearl Harbor. This help the audience understand the situation a little …show more content…

Especially in the beginning of the movie when Major Strasser is first introduced. He mentions something about Germans will have to get used to all climates. I noticed this was a something you did to get a message across to your viewers because Major Strasser was hinting that Germany is on their path to taking over the world. Also, when Major Strasser goes to Rick’s restaurant, Captain Renault told a waiter to get the Major a good table. The Waiter replies “I have already given him the best, knowing he is German and would take it anyway.” I think I picked up on what you were doing here. It seemed like it was another message saying that Germany is very powerful and if are not stopped will take everything in their path. These were great ways on trying to get the public more interested in the

The film I picked for my critique is Red Tails, a historical World War II drama. The movie starred Cuba Gooding Jr., Terrence Howard and Gerald Mcraney, was written by John Ridley and Aaron McGruder, better known as the creator of the comic strip “the boondocks”, from a book by John B. Holway, directed by Anthony Hemingway and produced by George Lucas . In this paper the author will show how all elements of filmmaking come together to make Red Tails a memorable experience and a great American movie.…

When I was asked to make this speech I imagined you would all like to hear about how wonderful the films are you about to see; how technically correct and innovative they are and how great is the acting and the photography you will witness. Tensions rise between different cultures, always have and always will. That being said, violence is bound to occur, it’s just a matter of how and when. During the late 20th century of France, conflict was a reoccurring theme, with the involvement of wars, rioting, and social controversy. These conflicts are shown within the movies “Cache” and “The Battle of Algiers.” In this paper, I will discuss the violence partaken in each film.…

    Patriotism In Casablanca

The film Casablanca was released in 1942 in the setting of Casablanca, Morocco. Initially, I expected this film to be a typical romantic wartime drama involving a man and a woman torn apart by differing political views. I also expected a very simple love story involving one dimensional characters and somewhat superficial dialog. Lastly, like many of the older romantic films, I expected a happy ending with the two main characters living happily ever after. I can safely say that this was no typical love story, and that none of my initial expectations were correct.…

As stated previously this first topic is dedicated to showing the naive mentality that the United States possessed prior to the bombing of Pearl Harbor. In May of 1940, the main part of the U.S. fleet was transferred to Pearl Harbor from the West Coast (Heritage). There was numerous mooring and docking areas for ships, Pearl Harbor had already long been under construction to transform it into a major naval base (Heritage). From a security standpoint there were two elements that were detrimental for Pearl Harbor (Heritage). The first being that the area was restricted, thus preventing the distribution of its warships (Heritage). The second was that the opening to the sea was a single constricted channel (Heritage). The new arrival of Army and Navy personnel was quite upsetting to the locals of the area (Heritage). The facts are that the fleet’s alacrity was severely handicapped, the security was almost nonexistent, and the overall morale was sadly depressing (Heritage). These problems were being addressed between 1940-1941 (Heritage). Time limitations…

The bombardment of Pearl Harbor is seen as significant not solely because of its level of catastrophe, but also considering the fact that it caused Americans to join together in a war effort. Before, Pearl Harbor, the country was divided due to the fact that not all Americans wanted to be a part of World War II; however, after Pearl Harbor, the decision to go to war became unanimous. Pearl Harbor motivated Americans to fight for what they believed in, even after World War I debilitated them of most of their supplies. The tenderness Americans felt can be best explained by the words of fleet Chaplain William A. Macguire "Don't say we buried our dead with sorrow. They died manfully.…

The attack at Pearl Harbor had destroyed Americas sense of security because it helped expose some of our defensive weaknesses that we thought we never had.
