responsibilities in health and safety

As a teaching assistant it is really important to follow health and safety procedures at all times. Our responsibilities in terms of health and safety hold a very important role as we are always direct in contact with the classrooms and playgrounds therefore we should always ensure that there are no hazards left being unattended and unreported. Our role includes routine walk around checks where we ensure items are stored safely in cupboards after using them and the floor is kept clear at all times. Any spillage should be cleared up and should not be left unattended at any time. It’s is vital to be vigilant at all time. Other health and safety responsibilities include

Being aware where the health and safety notice board is which in my case is in the staff room. Furthermore we should be aware of any illness a child has in order to deal with future situations and what procedures to follow according to the health and safety guide.
Check indoor and outdoor hazards on regular basis and report any unsafe equipment following the correct procedures.
All teaching assistants should be aware of the fire exit doors and what procedure to follow in case of emergency.
Challenge any unidentified person in school without hesitating.
Use correct procedures for cleaning up any bodily fluids.
Make sure we are prepared thoroughly when carrying out unusual activities or when going on trips.

If kids in school are being taught how to cook all hygiene procedures should be implied and health and safety should be utmost important whilst hot appliances are around. By keeping children away from sharp or hot appliances hazard could be avoided.
