Alice Munro
Alice Munro was born 10 July 1931. Alice attended the University of Western Ontario. She left university when she married her husband James Munro. Alice moved to Vancouver with her husband and they opened a book store. Alice began publishing her work in magazines and grew to publishing her own books. She is now 82 years old and lives in Wingham, Ontario. She has four children and is still married. Alice is a Canadian author who writes in English. Alice Munro's work has been described as changing the design of short stories, especially moving forward and backward in time. Alice Munro's short stories are often set in her county of Huron in Southwestern Ontario. Her stories explore human complications in an uncomplicated style. Alice has writen many short stories which are very popular such as Open Secrets, Too much Happiness and The Progress Of Love. Munro's is one of our greatest contemporary writers of fiction. Alice was the first woman awarded "The Nobel Prize In Literatur" since 2009, for her work in 2013.

Setting/Plot/Characters/Conflicts
The story takes place in a small farm town. The story is about a young girl, Edie, who got hired help for Dr. Peebles and his family. One afternoon while the family is away in town, she met Chris Watters, a pilot who travels from town to town giving rides in his plane for a fee. Edie fell in love with him, but soon after found out that he is engaged to another woman, Alice Kelling. Alice is crazy and had been following Chris everywhere in hopes of sex. One day while Alice, Mrs. Peebles and the children were away on a picnic Edie went to Chris's campsite to talk with him. He told her that he plans on leaving, but promised to write to her. They kissed and he leaves town. When the other women heard gossip that Chris had left, Alice Kelling threatened Edie for mistaking that Edie and Chris had sex. Mrs. Peebles protected Edie, and Alice soon left

    The story takes place in Eatonville, Florida in the early 1930s. Joe and Missie May Banks are a newlywed couple living a happy life. Every Saturday afternoon Missie May leaves the front door open while she cooks and cleans for Joe. Joe works the night shift at G&G Fertilizer plant during the week. As Joe comes home from his job he is very playful, he usually stops by the store to get fifty-cent pieces. As he arrive home he begins to toss the money at the front door porch. While Missie May is cleaning and tending to her food, she hears the coins as they land on the floor. She finally walks outside to find Joe hiding from her. She finally greets him at the door and looks into his pockets. There she finds the ritual candy kisses he always bring her. This particular afternoon Joes surprises her. In addition to their usual routine, Joes tells her that he will be taking his wife to the new ice cream parlor that a new man from Chicago just opened. After dinner they put on their Sunday’s best and head to town for dessert. Otis Slemmons was the new guy around town and well known for his plentiful gold’s he wears frequently. He greets the couple at door; Joe introduces Missey May and Otis. With slick remarks from Otis trying to flirt with Missy May, the couple eat their dessert and leave. Otis continues to flirt with Missy may which eventually leaves them caught in the bed together one night while Joe comes home from work. Joe is hurt, Missy Mae tells Joe “he kept coming for me and told me he would give me gold.” Missy Mae had been trapped in his deceit. Weeks passed and Joe had yet to talk to her. She continued to cook and clean while Joe worked and came home to sleep. Eventually one night he told her he was in pain, she rubbed and caressed and they eventually made love. The story starts with her husband asking her to go into town for a nice dinner date night after he goes into the hills with their sun to look for some steers. Flattered by his praise to her planting work and feeling as if she should owe him something, Elisa digs out some old aluminum stove pots for him to fix. As he is repairing them, she asks him about life on the road and shows that she would love to live like a man despite his comments that it is dangerous for a woman to live like him.
