Imagine you are a young girl who is struggling with depression and school and doesn’t feel the will to live anymore. You end up in Paris and find comfort in the story of a girl who lived long ago, and somehow have a dream where you are living the eighteenth century, afraid and wanted by guards and rulers everywhere. “Revolution by Jennifer Donnelly is set in likely 2000-2010. But, the other main character’s, Alexandrine, timeline is set from around 1790 to the 1800s. Andi lives in Brooklyn, but most of the plot takes place in Paris, and Alexandrine is only ever in France.

Inside, items along with a portrait and cloves, is a journal, written by a 17 year old girl during the French Revolution. Somewhat later, Andi meets a man, Jules, who plays music with her and helps her pay for food. Along with him, she meets the man’s friend, Virgil, who plays music with her as well. She takes a liking to Virgil and the two end up talking a lot. She is working on her project, so she can go home to Brooklyn on Sunday, and as she does this, she reads the journal she found and finds a relation to the girl’s struggle, and feels the feelings Alexandrine must have felt during her adventure.
