In his speech, Franken uses tone and much pathos when talking about the allegation on how he responded. Franken states, “We were finally beginning to listen to women about the ways in which men’s action affect them. The moment was long overdue.” He claims he was shocked and many of the allegations were false or he did not remember them the way they were portrayed t the public. This section sets a tone of remorse and
pity claiming a different picture has been painted of him but the only thing that matters is he knows the truth about who he really is.
Another rhetorical strategy Franken uses is allusion along with Ethos. IN another passage of his speech he alludes to another political figure when he states, “I, of all people, am aware that there is some irony in the fact that I am leaving while a man who has bragged on tape about his history of sexual assault is in the oval office” In this passage he alludes toward president Trump. He refers to the many times Trump has been bragging about sexual assault. This reinforces his claim being connected to Ethics as how could we elect someone like this to be our president represent us as a country.
In conclusion, Franken uses these elements of writing to create an amazing resignation speech. He mainly made this speech to address the corruption within out United States decisions and clear up the allegations made against him about sexual harassment.
