Rhetorical Devices Used In George Robinson's Speech
Throughout his speech, Robinson express that he has an interest in education and creativity should be treated the same. He uses humor to attract the attention and engage the audience in speech. He uses personal experience to show that children are not afraid to take chances or being wrong. He is concern that art and music are not treated equally like mathematics and language. He states that there are three things about intelligence – diverse, dynamic, and distinct. He explains diverse is people think visually, in sound, kinetically, abstract, and in movement. Dynamic is original ideas that mostly comes out through interactions in different ways. Lastly, he explains that distinct is different people and their talent. He shares a personal experience

    While in the Oval Office of the White house, on January 28, 1986, President Ronald Reagan delivered his speech about The Challenger Disaster. The speech was made just hours after space shuttle “Challenger” exploded during take-off, killing all seven crew members on board. Thousands witnessed this horrifying event live in person and on television. A big factor about this launch, making the explosion an even worse disaster was the fact that this mission was very unique. For the first time, NASA allowed a civilian to be allowed in space during a mission. She was aboard The Challenger as an observer in the NASA Teacher in Space Program. Ironically, nineteen years before this disaster, three astronauts were tragically lost in an accident on the ground. President Reagan remembers those astronauts that were lost not only the day of the disaster, but also those who were lost nineteen years before. He conducts this speech not only to mourn the death of The Challenger astronauts, but for the families and those who were impacted from this event. He especially calls out to the schoolchildren of America who were watching this event live as the shuttle took off. As the President of the United States, Reagan earned the nickname "The Great Communicator" due to his ability to convey his beliefs concerning economic and domestic policies to the public. This speech is just one example of how well Reagan spoke to the American public on a personal level and profoundly influenced the nations confidence in itself after this tragic event.…

    History is filled with stories of world changing triumphs and unlikely victories. But entangled with these tales of success is tragedy and loss. As humans push themselves to explore and discover more of what is out there, mistakes and disasters are inevitable. Amelia Earhart became the first woman to fly across the Atlantic, changed the views of women as aviators forever, and won many awards, as well as the recognition of the public eye. She set several other aviation records, only to tragically disappear during her attempt to fly around the world. The very first explorer to circumnavigate the world, Ferdinand Magellan, did not even survive the journey back home. But his trip was legendary and changed the worldview of his time. The deaths of these celebrated individuals are examples of how catastrophe often accompanies the advancement of humanity.     I think the speech I connected with the most in the opening ceremony was the main speech given by Dr. Marie LePage. It was not the whole speech, just one paragraph. Doctor LePage said that even though she had all this expertise in her field, sometimes she had this doubt that she belonged there with her colleagues, or even that she did not know she was doing.
