Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA) is a chronic autoimmune disease that causes inflammation of joints leading to hot, swollen and painfully restricted movements. RA can also affect other parts of the body such as the eyes or lungs. In the early mornings RA presents as joint stiffness that eases during the day. If left untreated, repetitive inflammation often results in joint damage. RA can occur at any age, but usually presents in people from 35 to 643. With an estimated half a million people suffering with RA, 57 percent are women3. With this many people suffering with RA it is said to be the second most common form of arthritis.

Other foods such as extra-virgin olive oil contains a compound called Oleocanthal, which can block the enzymes that cause inflammation and therefore act like non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) such as aspirin or ibuprofen .
