He knows it is no secret that every person finds pleasure in something, whether that being sexual or not. Richard Hawkins is considered a minority because of his sexuality and his age; with him being older and gay, it is mostly frowned upon. He was born in Mexia, Texas in 1961 and currently resides in Los Angeles, California. He is in fact a well known artist because his art is shown at the Whitney Museum of American Art, Museum of Modern Art, and the Art Institute of Chicago, all being permanently displayed. He concentrates on how the viewer interacts with the male body because it is slightly uncomfortable but also erotic. Using male nudity is a refreshing and motivating way to show young artists that there really is no limit when it comes to making art. Art can mean so many different things and Hawkins takes it to a new level, making it seem that the “normal” thing to do, is to be weird. Expressing the body itself is a beautiful notion because there is not one body that is identical.
