Contrastingly, the song Bolero' in scene five symbolises the high spirits, determination and triumph of the women. This is emphasised by the quote "We forgot the Japs-we forgot our hunger-our boils-everything Together we made this glorious sound that rose above the camp-above the jungle-above the war-rose and rose and took us with it. Fifty voices set us free." This use of music conveys the meaning of the themes of heroism, comradeship, the will to overcome oppression and survival.…
Handel was a British Baroque composer, who spent much of his career in London. He was well known for his operas, oratorios, anthems, and organ concertos. Within fifteen years of Handel’s career he started three commercial opera companies. One of Handel’s most famous works still to this day is, “Messiah.” Handel is one of the greatest Baroque composers and he is also remembered for “Water Music” and “Music for the Royal Fireworks.” One of his greatest accomplishments during his career is, composing over forty operas in thirty…
In conclusion, Antonio Vivaldi lived a short, but eventful life filled with many accomplishments. His dedication to music from an early age allowed him to reach his full potential and use that to inspire and influence many generations after him. Vivaldi has helped to create a name for the baroque period and is one of the reasons it is remembered today. His many operas, concertos, and other works such as The Four Seasons changed the way in which future music was written and will continue to be an inspiration to fellow…
“Nocturne Op.27, No.2 in D-flat Major”, composed by Frédéric Chopin, attracted me since the performer pressed the first note on the piano. This music was passionate and sexy and displaced dialogue without using any words. It started with slow and soft motions as its exposition, and then it raised the speed up with instable and repeatable notes during the development stage, after that it went back to soft and slowly motion as its recapitulation. This piece reminded me of the theme song of Titanic, which presented a love story behind. Plus, the floating motion of the barge made me felt like part of the story. I found listening to this a worthwhile experience since I haven’t ever been to this kind of concert before. And it was a fantastic beginning to the bargemusic concert of my life.…
This song by Beethoven makes me feel like I'm in a Twilight movie, if that was a good thing. It feels like there is very slow rising action action that is played in a movie where nothing too eventful happens for a long time.…
Characters lead the story in realism stories. They focus more on what the character does and how they interact with their environment rather than following a major story line. A character by the name of Aunt Georgiana in the story “A Wagner Matinee” by Willa Cather revolves around the pigeonholed story line. I view Aunt Georgiana as a dynamic, relatable, and fragile character that undergoes major memories that give her a wake to reality.…
Johannes Brahms I selected Johannes Brahms because I believe that he was an amazingly interesting musician and person. I love the way in which he thought out his compositions so academically, trying to express literature and the feelings that it conveys through his music. Also, I find interesting the way in which he expressed these feelings while always maintaining structure and form in his compositions. Moreover, I feel like I relate to him at some level, as it is said that he was very organized and pretty much a perfectionist. It is believed that when he did not like one of his works, he would get rid of it; destroy it, even after being complete.…
One of Wagner’s main arguments against Jewish artists and their music were that the musicians could only produce inferior derivations of pure European art they could never fully express themselves. Wagner seemingly held the belief that Jewish musicians were not able to fully comprehend modern European languages because they were “merely learnt” by Jewish artists and therefore “have remained…a foreign tongue” (Wagner, 7). Wagner’s impression was that Jewish artists works’ expressivity was limited due to the fact that, from Wagner’s perspective, Jewish artists didn’t have the capacity to fully understand the complexities of modern European languages and therefore lacked the ability to properly use these languages to convey profundity,…
The orchestras in each opera were very different from each other. In “The Valkyrie” by Wagner the music piece was very emotional and would set the feeling of what was happening. Compared to ‘Carmen’ by Bizet which is very soothing and peaceful Wagner's…
This was one of his most famous works in his life as a playwright, others included “Egmont” and “Iphigenie auf Tauris.” These were only some of the major achievements in his works as a playwright, but these were some of his most famous and talented works of art. This “fame” as some might call it, got him his status of being a very powerful and impacting being during the Enlightenment. His international standing equals those of the German supreme philosophers and composers. Both these supreme powers in Germany both made works from Goethe’s literary works, such as, philosophers have taken from his works and ideas, on the other hand though, composers did often make his works into compositions of music. He was a very impactful and compelling person in the time of the Enlightenment, with many achievements throughout his life, his adulthood and time in the Enlightenment was the biggest and best time of his…
The composer wanted to create a memorable Leitmotifs. The music makes me think of a drama that I can picture many of the actions taking place just by listening to the music.…
Beginning with songs and string quartets written around the turn of the century, Schoenberg's concerns as a composer positioned him uniquely among his peers, in that his procedures exhibited characteristics of both Brahms and Wagner, who for most contemporary listeners, were considered polar opposites, representing mutually exclusive directions in the legacy of German music. Schoenberg's Six Songs, Op. 3 (1899–1903), for example, exhibit a conservative clarity of tonal organization typical of Brahms and Mahler, reflecting an interest in balanced phrases and an undisturbed hierarchy of key relationships. However, the songs also explore unusually bold incidental chromaticism, and seem to aspire to a Wagnerian…
Music also plays a crucial role in the movie Schindler's List in arguably one of the best scenes of the movie directed by Steven Spielberg. Schindler's List's ending scene is a powerful and emotionally heavy. The song is the Schindler's List’s theme song which was created solely for the movie. This in itself expresses the nature of the song, that it is a dark and a emotional provoking song. It was created to engage the audience’s emotion in the movie. During this scene this song is playing in the background softly as the camera moves from face to face of Schindler’s workforce, as he is having a realization that he could of saved "One more person" if he had sold his car, his clothes. The music in the background creates a huge emotion to the…
