“Where is my mom? What’s holding her up? She should be out here by now.” I wondered to myself. Around 11am my mom finally came outside, it felt like an eternity had passed by. All this time I could have been advancing my knowledge of the proper way to ride a two-wheeler. …show more content…
I mounted myself over my two-wheeler as my mom instructed me to do so.
She held the rear part of the saddle on the bike.
“Okay Nicole, this is the part where you have to trust me… deal?” my mom asked me.
“You're my mom, I trust you...completely.” I replied
I put one foot on a pedal on my two-wheeler, I gripped the handle bar with all my might.
“Firsts things first, you must know how to maintain your balance so you do not tip over” my mom told me as she lifted my other foot and placed it over the other pedal.
“Mom?” I told her trembling.
“Yeah Nicole, what’s wrong?” she asked me.
“I don’t think I can do this. What if I tip over or maybe I might crash into our Bignonioides tree” I flustered.
“Nicole, riding a bike is like taking a test you must believe in yourself and you also have to concentrate. Ignore everything around you, focus on making it to the end of the
sidewalk.
I took a deep breath I tried to move forward. Quickly, I lost my balance and fell on my side, injuring my shin when the down tube hit the lower part of my leg.The failure of my first attempt caused frustration.
“Nicole, it’s okay that you failed nobody is perfect. It took me about 80 tries till I got it remotely right. Even now I still make silly mistakes that cause me to tip over.” my loving mom reminded me.
With that in mind, I continued to try. But again I failed.
