Those capable of dealing with and responding to stressors in a productive and calm manner tend to possess personality traits which increase hardiness and resilience. Individuals who are strongly devoted to their lives, appreciate challenges, and have a high level of perceived control over their interactions are effective in terms of hardiness. Resilience and hardiness are closely related and allow patients to become more adjusted in health and well-being scenarios (Gurung, 2013). Risk factors for Max include his workplace, living environment and lifestyle habits, pressure to provide for his family, and the recent breakdown of his vehicle. Resilience factors for Max are his social support, exercise routine, and strong desire to be a good provider for his family.
Which factors put him at risk for stress and disease and which buffer him against stress and help him to cope?

such as working in an auto parts factory, being a provider for his family, recent breakdown of his vehicle, and increasingly unsafe living conditions may be causing considerable mental risk for Max. Additionally, Max’s unhealthy diet and smoking habit are a source of physical risk.
On the contrary, Max also has factors in life which help to increase his resilience and ability to cope with his stress. Max has a strong social support system, is a good provider for his family, hardworking employee, and works out regularly (Ellis, 2013).
Explain WHY each factor is a risk or resilience factor and how it is related to stress, disease, or coping.
Many of the factors in Max’s life present potential risks.
First, working in an auto parts factory is accompanied by health risks such as heavy lifting, falling objects, chemical spills and exhaust inhalation. Pressure to be an ample provider for his family is a significant risk for Max, especially since he is the sole benefactor. Additionally, the recent pressure to rely on his wife for transportation and the concerning neighborhood trends have increased the mental strain on Max’s relationship with those around him. The high fat diet Max chooses to eat and cigarette smoking put him at risk for developing diseases such as cancer, heart disease, high blood pressure, adult onset diabetes. Although high fat food and smoking may provide a temporary feeling of comfort, Max is making his body susceptible to more negative physical manifestations of stress than a non-smoking individual who follows a healthy and balanced
diet.
Admittedly, there are many aspects of Max’s life contributing to the burden of stress and disease. However, Max has the emotional support of his family and friends to help him cope with hard times and discover strength in difficult times. Because Max works out regularly and has a fairly physical job, his body is probably more capable of responding to stress.
