Roberta and Twyla meet in an orphanage and become friends when they realize that they both are without their mothers. This is what bonds them and they see they have something in common. Both of their mothers show up at the orphanage and they want their mothers to become friends as well. This is when it becomes very obvious that they are very different somehow. Roberta’s mother is very condescending to Twyla’s mother. Roberta ends up leaving the orphanage while Twyla stays and their friendship fades. They meet once again when Roberta enters a café that Twyla is working in. Their differences are recognized again. But when they meet again at a grocery store, Roberta talks about the past and reminds Twyla how Maggie was abused. This …show more content…
A home is where a woman feels secure. But in this story it is where the narrator feels alone and trapped. Also, the moonlight has an awakening effect on the narrator and the woman in the wallpaper. And the daytime is when the woman in the paper is motionless and the narrator is not herself. There is some clear symbolism happening in this story as well. The wallpaper with its bars show that the narrator feels trapped. The nursery represents the way her husband treats her as a child. The plot would be the events that lead to a climax or resolution of conflict. The tone is important when we think about what is actually going on underneath the actual story. This is where irony presents itself (for example in a horror movie when someone goes up stairs not knowing the killer is there, but we know the killer is there – Dramatic Irony). The narrator tells the story and establishes from what view this will be done (one example would be third person which knows the thoughts of all people in the story). The theme would be the central idea of the story or a message. This is where you see your conflict (one example being Man vs. Man – the main character against someone else). There are many different types of characters (one example would be a flat character – one dimensional and not very developed). There are many techniques and devices used in developing a story. One technique is foreshadowing and this is where the author gives a hint about something that will happen. The ending of a story can be many things and many are just like real life with no resolution at all
