In the first part of the scene the author writes in a narrative and descriptive style that can be seen in the quotes used below. In addition to these writing styles, the author uses repetition and hypotyposis in this part. The use of repetition can be seen throughout page 240 and 241 as the author repeatedly places time stamps within the text as shown; “With 33 seconds left, a stride outside the blue line, Petrov drove… Kharlamov flipped the puck back in with 19 seconds remaining…. With under 10 seconds to play” (Coffey). The author’s use of repetition in this scene focus reader’s attention on the fact that the team has almost achieved their goal. As a result, this attention causes the scene intensity to increase and maintain the reader’s attention. Also, the use of hypotyposis in seen throughout the entire scene as the author provides detailed descriptions of the action that is occurring. For example, on page 240 the author describes the action occurring on the ice; “He [Johnson, US player] passed it behind the net toward Ramsey, who crashed into Biyaletdinov, who had charged in from the point. MaClanahan hustled into the corner, beat Kharlamov to the puck” (Coffey). As observed in the quote, the authors detailed description of the game places the reader in a situation as if they were watching the game live. Similar to the use of …show more content…
The author and director approach the use of logos in different ways. On one hand, the director implements details focusing on teamwork and unit. An example of the film’s details can be seen at 2:04:34 and 2:04:41 where the director uses a medium shot to capture the team supporting one another as well as at 2:04:37 where a point of view shot of the referee captures the team working together on the ice as the clear the puck from the middle of the offensive zone. These details add to the director’s use of logos as provides the viewer with specific details that help establish the message of the film. Specifically, these details include the fact that teammates must support another both mental as well as physical in order to be successful which, play a role in the development to the message. The way these details contribute to the message will be discussed later. On the other hand, the book implements details focusing on effort and enduring pain. This book detail can be seen on page 240 as the author states “No effort was being spared” by the US team (Coffey). This detail contributes to logos differently than in the films instance as it reveals that effort and pain endurance is required to reach your goals. Furthermore, this detail influences the message, which will be discussed
