Roles And Responsibilities Of A Chief Executive
Roles and Responsibilities of a Chief Executive Officer
As the job title implies, the chief executive officer occupies the top rung in corporate management but the size of the organization may determine the CEO's job duties. The specific duties of a CEO depend largely on the size and structure of the business, but the general responsibilities are practically similar. These are the following:
1. He must elaborate the major policies of a firm.
2. He must define the objectives of the firm.
3. He must develop strategies & the long range plan for achieving these objectives.
4. He must develop an organization which most efficiently carries out the company’s strategic plan.
5. He must develop the operating policies which ease the burden of decision-making to carry out the plan.
6. He will also be involved in controlling the operations of the firm and in problem solving.

The role of a CEO varies within any business, big or small. Also, they somehow differ in such ways:
1. The CEO for a small business with limited resources or staff is likely to more hands-on than the CEO for a mid-size company or a large corporation. In addition, the smaller an organization is, the closer a CEO is to the front-line staff, whereas in a large company, the CEO might never interact with front-line staff.
2. In a large corporation, the CEO is the head of a board of directors. In a small company, he is the executive in charge of vice-presidents or department managers.

A Chief Executive Officer, or CEO, is essentially responsible for every decision that is made within a company. The job can be very demanding, but also very rewarding when the company succeeds because of decisions that were made at the top. Whether the CEO is a head of a huge corporation or small business, he still plays a major role in the ultimate success or failure of a company.
The Chief Executive of a company should be like the pilot of a plane. He should be familiar with

If I were advising in the area of Leadership-Succession Planning I would suggest that it become a top priority by making it an integral part of the CEO’s job responsibilities. In addition, it should also be included as part of the CEO’s annual job performance review. This helps to guarantee that Leadership Succession Plan is not overlooked or neglected as demonstrated by Citicorp’s leadership (Cascio, 2010 pg. 193). I would also advised the company and its Board to create a strategy to ensure that when the time came to select a new CEO the transition from one CEO to another would be fluid, causing the least amount of disruption. This can be accomplished by the following steps:…
