The role of the US Department of Education is to provide education on a state and local level. The power of bureaucracy was prevalent in the historical case of Segregation in the south. There were separate rules within the states of the Unites States. Segregation prevent Blacks from entering schools in the 1960’s. This enacted the Desegregation laws prohibiting discrimination thus violating the Civil Rights Acts and Civil Liberty. Today all public schools are desegregated. FAFSA is an annual financial aid application for college students. There are several financial options. One is a Pell Grant. Not every American can receive a Pell Grant; there is a maximum limit to the times that the government will allow you to receive financial aid. The maximum amount you can receive is up to $5,000 per year. There is a set restriction of six uses of this Pell Grant. If the student does not qualify, they will need to apply for a Student Loan, which is also regulated by the bureaucracy. If the student does not pay the loan back, the government can seize assets. To apply, the student must adhere to strict regulations in order to qualify. This also includes intersection with the Internal Revenue Service that request information from all household members. Military families are also illegible for free education. The Department of Education overlaps with many of the executive departments such as, the Department of Treasury, Department of Labor, the Department of Commerce Health and Human Services, free lunch programs, free clinics are in some of the high schools.
