Roller Coaster Poem
The poem describes life like a rollercoaster. Life is full of ups and downs, an emotional roller coaster ride that you can't quite imagine. The image that came up in my mind as i was reading the poem are two rollercoasters. One has ups, downs and loops, but the other is leveled and stable. The loops, ups and downs add thrill and color to the ride. It may be breath-taking but riders were obviously satisfied and happy overcoming and experiencing such ride. On the other hand, the other which was leveled and stable, was not that risky and extreme but, what is the point of riding a rollercoaster that has no “ups and downs”? Same as with life, the true meaning and essence of “living” is about failing, trying again, and succeeding. Being weak, and …show more content…

To me, the poem appears to be comparing our youthful years as being as valuable as gold. We are to enjoy our time when we are young for it is the "…hardest hue to hold…" on to. It is also saying that our childhood years are very short and feels like "…but only so an hour…" As we grow older, our garden of "…Eden sank to grief…" The beginning of our life will quickly end as "…dawn goes down to day…" So in the end "…nothing gold can stay…" which refers to the end of our innocence. (All quotes taken from…

I wish the ride could stop, - Please make the emotional rollercoaster stop. - I want to stay on the ground; I don't want to learn how to fly. - Mom, stop this ride. I'm starting to feel sick. - Stop the ride, this feeling of high, I don't like the feeling.…

The Fury, the fastest, longest, and tallest rollercoaster on the East Coast. With a top speed of 95 mph and a height of 325 feet makes it the biggest rollercoaster I had ever gotten on, beating the Intimidator 305 by 25 feet. I remember seeing on television and wanting to ride it really badly. It just looked so amazing and since I love rollercoasters and love riding rollercoasters, I knew it was something I had to do. I had ridden lots of rollercoasters before this one such as the Intimidator 305 and the Top Thrill Dragster, which I had enjoyed riding very much, and I figured that the Fury would be just as good. So I asked my parents of we could go to the Carrowinds to ride the Fury. They said yes and we went with my aunt to the Carrowinds.…

The shift in images from the beginning to the ending of the poem served as a useful example in showing me how to switch the tone of a poem with grace (I was thinking about my condom poem in this instance) and how to structure lines and words in a way that make the reader think. All in all, Brewington hits the nail on the head with this poem by delivering a prepossessing story of life, death, and all the odd portions…

One reason why, is because, in the beginning of the poem, it starts off by giving negative messages. Once you read it backwards it gives you strong positive messages. In my opinion, I believe that this poem gives you the idea that a part of the world is crooked and bad, while another part of the world has a lot of good and happiness. Although, many people disagree and have only seen the bad in the world, this does not mean that bad could not turn good. Today, our generation has many different types of people:Quiet, angry, unhappy and finally happy people. Seeing different personalities although sounds a little bit crazy, helps make us who we are and allows us to know who and where we belong. This poem is also showing that if we did what it said backwards, we would be happier and do better in life. My favorite part about the poem was how it explains that if we switch any negative things from life back to good, it would allow us to have an effect on the world allowing us to possibly be able to change somebody's life for the better. Lastly, I believe that this poem can help other people change positively and see the world…

Many people would have made chosen to take the path that has been taken more often, knowing they will be safe and their deeds will go unnoticed. I would have taken the path less traveled by too, but not everyone makes the same choices. This is why there are both bad and good people in the world. Hopefully someday the good will weigh out the bad and all will be equal. The author used poetic devices to make the poem seem more real. Even though choices are already real. In the first line the poet gave am example of assonance. “Two roads diverged in a yellow wood.” The ‘O’ sound is repeated in “roads” and “yellow.” He also gave an example of personification. In the eighth line the text states, “Because it was grassy and wanted wear.” He gave a human characteristic to a non-living thing. He was saying the path wanted wear but only living things like humans, animals and plants can want. The poem as a whole could be considered a metaphor. The poet was comparing the paths in life to the choices one must make. This poem speaks of the actual choices in one’s life, as roads one must choose to take. The roads represent your choices in…

Ignorance and materialism negatively affects humans some way or another, and society only increases these lifestyles. Whether or not we believe it, ignorance and materialism is a daily part in our lives today; thus, we cannot live without it. We try to ease our problems by blindingly accepting society’s norms and trends. Because we cannot formulate our own ideals and ways of life, we live in a false sense of justice and peace. In Tony Hoagland’s “Hard Rain,” the speaker witnesses these faults in our behavior at a shopping mall; however, he, similarly, is not able to escape that reality. The larger meaning of this poem, that we have no sense of individualism and morality, is specified by the author’s usage of diction and the disappointing, humorous, and controversial tone he uses to prove it.…

There are always obtiscals in life that we face. In this poem it says "No matter how you succed awake, asleep there is a test waiting to be failed" (1252). Yes this can be realted to school but I see that in life no matter what you do there is always a test that you can either fail or pass. We mite not relize that they are tests but each and eveyday god gives us test that we can either pass or fail. They are almost the same as test in school because if you fail you can be punished for them with bad grades, and in life you can be punished with consequences. The author said " The dream beckons with two dull pencils, but you havent even taken the course"(1252). I can relate this to life because with a dream all you have at first is a dream starteing from sctract not knoowing what can happen. Two dull pencils can relate to this because you do not know what your getting yourself into and the trails that come along the way can be very dull . Of course you dont know what can happen because you havent lived your future and thats a course itself.…

The feelings and emotions used in it is the first reason why it is about life and death. The first line “, Nature’s first green is gold,,” talks about how life is beautiful, untouched, innocent, and valuable when it starts out, which evokes a feeling of happiness because it might bring the best in what you have seen in life. Then, the second, third, and fourth lines “, Her hardest hue to hold. Her early leaf’s a flower; But only so an hour,” mostly says that either this innocent life is killed or corrupted by the truths and evils of the world, which either one evokes the emotion of sadness and helplessness that you could not help this life and that it’s beauty is gone, never to be recovered again. The fifth, sixth, seventh, and eighth lines then, finally, bring the poem to a close “, Then leaf subsides to leaf. So Eden sank to grief, So dawn goes down to day. Nothing gold can stay,” by saying that all life does this until it dies and that it goes…

Jack Ma once said, “Never give up. Today is hard, tomorrow will be worse, but the day after tomorrow will be sunshine.” Life is guaranteed to have some degree of difficult. Everyone comes across obstacles in their life that make them want to just give up and stop moving forward. The poem “Mother to Son” by Langston Hughes shows a mother describing how life, “ain’t been no crystal stair,” (line 2). As the poem continues the mother describes how her life has been difficult as she says, “It’s had tacks in it… and places with no carpet on the floor- Bare.” (Lines 3, 6, 7). The mother then begins to tell her son to not turn back, or give up, when life decides to throw adversity his way, because life was not good to her and she came out okay. This poem is based on the idea of hope, and encouragement to always keep moving forward despite all the difficulties of life.…

    My Favourite Poem

This is my favourite poem as it describes hope by using a powerful array of metaphors to enhance its effect. While it is true that many people all over the world live in extremely challenging and life threatening situations, leading hard lives in appalling conditions. What keeps people going in such circumstances is the glimmer of hope that things can change. This is one thought that came to mind when first reading the poem and this is what attracted me to it and as it relates to any hopeless situations it really does apply to all aspects of life.…
