Romeos first line of speech is him speaking to the audience, as they are the only ones who are aware of the dramatic irony, knowing the relationship that is going on between Romeo and Juliet.
The scene ends with Romeo talking about how Juliet has softened his heart then Benvolio talks about Mercutio’s death and how he died too young. Mercutio’s death increases the tension between the two families, Romeo expresses this through the quote “This day’s black fate on moe days doth depend: This but begins the woe others must end. The conclusion of the scene leaves an increased tension between the two houses.
This Importance of this extract in this play is that it is the climax and the turning point of the whole play. It is the point where we see the impulsive side of Romeo but also his dedication for love.
