“A thousand times the worse………(2.2.158-161)”. In this Romeo tells Juliet that him leaving her is like a schoolboy leaving his first girlfriend. Romeo does not want to leave Juliet, instead he wants to marry her as quickly as possible because he claims to love her. Romeo lays his eyes on Juliet and immediately falls in love, no. Love at first sight does not happen, people must get to know the other person before even thinking of marriage. Romeo and Juliet got engaged not even four hours after meeting and got married the day after that. That is not love, that is not even rushed love, that is manipulation. Friar Laurence tells Romeo and Juliet that a rushed marriage is just as bad as a slow one when he says, “Therefore love moderately. Long love doth so………..(2.6.14-15).” He is telling us that he does not believe the wedding should happen, he believes they moved too fast. It is important that Friar says these things because, Friar is someone that Romeo and Juliet both look up to and value his opinion. This proves that Romeo and Juliet moved too fast and got married too
