Rose Mccarthy Shelter: A Case Study
Ms. Suazo (40yo) DOB 9/26/1977 met with Ms. Ijelu to conduct her intake assessment on 10/12/17 at 3:30pm. Ms. Suazo entered Rose McCarthy Shelter with her three children Gheistim Sanchez (21yo) DOB 4/17/1996, Lorna Bonilla (14yo) DOB 8/20/2003 and Deiby Zelaya (6yo) DOB 7/15/2011. Client stated that she became homeless because she was living with a sister but was unable to stay there due to overcrowding when her children came from Honduras decided to move to the United States.
Housing History:
Client stated that she is originally from Honduras but moved to the United States in 2013 due to domestic violence from her youngest child’s father, Client also stated she has asylum. Prior to entering the shelter system Ms. Suazo lived with her sister in the Bronx.

Entitlements:
Client stated she applied for public assistance. She will alert Ms. Ijelu when her case is open and active.

Employment:
Client stated that she is currently unemployed, but has experience babysitting children and also worked as HHA for one year.

Education/Childcare:
Client stated that she finished high school and has a high school diploma. Client also stated her daughter also finished and attended university for six month prior is moving to the USA. Client's other children are all enrolled at I.S. 313 School of

Client stated that this caused her to flee to the United States because she was in fear for her life. Client also stated half of her body being numb, she said the doctor said it was caused by stress. Other than that client reports no other mental health problems. Client reports she doesn’t take medication. Client does not report any of the children having mental health problems. Client submitted immunization for all of her children from Honduras. Ms. Suazo is the only household member with health insurance at the present

    She is one of the doctor associates in the Community Psychiatric Clinic (CPC). We have a phone interview approximately 30 minutes. She believes that anxiety on homeless young adults is a serious public health problem because each part of the population impact on the whole community’s health. Also, she defined that anxiety disorder is one of the behavioral health disorders which induce from stress. Anxiety disorder is a severe mental health issue which can lead to other related mental health illnesses, such as depression, bipolar disorder, and substance disorders. This problem is a serious issue that matter to her because she had involved with several national mental health policies and she believes that only increase the accessibility of physical health care can resolve the large amount of anxiety disorder on homeless young adults today. For the related program that target on anxiety disorder, Jessica said that CPC has their own array of treatment and counseling service to assist and recover those young adults from their behavioral health disorders. Many of the homeless young adults has been referred from other shelters to their place because he or she may have a severe mental health illness, which let he or she not litigable to stay in shelter. CPC also has housing support for low income or homeless people. The purpose of housing support services is to provide them with the skills and successfully live independently in the community and maintain their housing. Jessica thinks that treatment and counseling can help them recover from these behavioral disorders. However, she believes that the community itself has to be aware from the causation of anxiety on homeless young adults. She suggested that having multiple services agencies close to each together would efficiently decrease the anxiety disorder of homeless young adults, because she has notice that homeless population has a hard time to access public transportation.…
