Rosacea is a common but poorly understood disorder of the facial skin that is estimated to affect well over 16 million Americans and most of them don 't know it. Rosacea is becoming increasingly widespread as the popular baby booming generation enters the most susceptible ages. The National Rosacea Society survey found that 95 percent of rosacea patients had known little or nothing about its signs and symptoms prior to their diagnosis (Rosacea .org).
Terminology:__________________________________________________________________
Rosacea is a chronic skin disease that causes persistent redness over the areas of the face and nose that normally blush. The forehead, chin, and lower half of the nose are the main spots that become infected. Tiny blood vessels in these areas enlarge and become more visible through the skin appearing like red lines called telangiectasias. Pimples that look like acne will occur. Rosacea occurs most often between the ages of 30 and 60, especially in people with fair skin. It effects both male and female but it occurs more commonly in women than men(MedicineNet.com).
