On the 10th of February 1676, large numbers of Indians raided the town of Lancaster. They brutally beat and murdered many of the towns inhabitants and some were captured, including Mary Rowlandson. Rowlandson watched as men, women, and children were murdered in the most grotesque ways imaginable. One man begged for his life before the Indians but they, “knocked him on the head, stripped him naked, and split open his bowels” (Rowlandson 59). The first few weeks of her captivity Rowlandson was treated like an animal, scarcely given food or water. Her baby died eight days after capture. Even with all of this happening, Rowlandson does not lose faith in god. She is forced to pray in secrecy for the Indians do not allow it. Every few days the Indians would change locations and Rowlandson would have to walk there with no energy or help. If she fell the Indians would not help but laugh or yell instead. The Indians had no sympathy toward Rowlandson which made her hate them even more.…
There have been several interpretations of the Salem Witchcraft Crisis of 1692. Like every issue that has come up, everyone has their own take on it. Mary Beth Norton chose to lay out her version of the witchcraft trials in her book, In the Devil's Snare. It is a tremendously ambitious book. Throughout the book, Norton is trying to lay out connections between the experiences of settlers in Maine, the accusations of the afflicted in Salem, and the actions and decisions of the colony leaders.…

Then at that dry warm night, a young Sioux woman lies on a bed in our house. She is feverish, delirious, and coughing so hard I'm afraid she would die. My father kneels in the kitchen floor begging my mother to help him. It’s a summer night and the room is brightly lit. Tiny insects cluster around the light fixtures, and the pleading quality in my father’s voice reminds me of those insects- high pitched, insistent, frantic. It is a sound I never heard coming from him. My mother knocked a billion times but no one answered the door; not even a whimper of…

When she got her first hit, she became even more productive, not disappearing from the public.…
In art the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood movement is much like disco, its not dead until the people are done enjoying it. The group founded by John Millais, John Everett Millais, Dante Gabriel Rossetti, and William Holman Hunt first started in 1848 in Millais 's parents house. Not one of its founders could have dreamed the sensational art they were about to unveil to the world. The group itself was mainly comprised of poets and painters who wanted to bring back the freshness and conviction of early Italian paintings before the works of Raphael Sanzio da Urbino which artist of the time considered primitive. The four major doctrines of the group resemble what you would expect to find in a utopian debating committee. The doctrines while being simple also help you easily see their main goal with their work and their group. The Pre-Raphaelites also took their love of art to…
The morning of Hallows Eve, 324 years after the last Tuckerson incident, the children of Elmore went to school as if it were a regular day. At Elmore High a new student, Edward, was told the legend of the Tuckerson witches. He believed it to be a myth, or some silly story to scare him, but he was in for an awakening. That evening he and his new friends decided to go check out the old Tuckerson house. As the legend had stated, a candle was to be waiting to be lit by a young, foolish child. Upon arriving at the Tuckerson house, Edward was dared to go inside the house, find and light the candle, and come back to prove himself right about the legend being false. Although he claimed he did as told, Edward tried his best to find the candle, but couldn’t see anything in the darkness of the night.…
