Lola Run is an unconventional and postmodernist film. It is considered post modern as it does not use mainstream conventions of film making and narrative structure. The post modernist film was successfully delivered, as this distinctively visual text challenged everything an individual knows and puts it into question. When the flashbacks are happening, there are less than 25 frames per second, it creates a jolted quality to the footage, reminds us of old black and white movies, this is fitting because these are flashbacks are to do with memory and what has already happened. As Manni enlightens Lola of what has happened, images of holidays destinations are shot very hurriedly as Manni lists the places that the tramp might now be with his money. The pictures are played as quickly as Manni’s thoughts, the music speeds up as does our sense of Manni’s desperation. The variety of film stock, fast paced, black and white footage allows tykver to convey meaning and engage the audience.
In addition to being introduced to Lola and Manni, the beginning of the film acquaints us with the rest of the cast of the film. One by one the main characters are revealed to us and brought into focus whilst those in the background continue as before. We know these people are important because they are brought into focus and full colour, but we don’t know why. This may toy with audience’s emotions by them questioning themselves
