Condoms: The New Diploma
In Rush Limbaugh’s essay, “Condoms: The New Diploma”, he talks about the worthlessness of the distribution of condoms in high school. The authors claim of how condom distribution promotes sex by teens and bypasses abstinence. Limbaugh says that abstinence should be the one and only sex education because condoms don’t actually offer one hundred percent protection against pregnancy and sexually transmitted diseases.
Long summary:
In Rush Limbaugh’s essay, “Condoms: The New Diploma”, he states that giving out condoms or making them on hand for students in school would promote sexual activity. Limbaugh only shows the rewards of abstinence, because he believes there aren’t any for the distribution of
Condoms in high Schools. Limbaugh states that “advocates of condom distribution say that kids are going to have sex, that try as we might we can’t stop them.” Then adds if sex is going to be “something you can’t stop kids from doing” so is smoking cigarettes all the time, doing drugs in homeroom, and shooting guns at teachers. Limbaugh provides life-relating examples and statistics such as Magic Johnson and aids, claiming that abstinence is the only safe sex and that some people oppose teaching abstinence, while using examples of New York, and Jacksonville Florida schoolteachers. Limbaugh claims that his opposition is involved in a cultural war and that they’re wildly irresponsible. His most convincing source is a statistic about condom failure and provides a comparison between condom failure and air travel. Limbaugh finally claims that condom distribution has failed and that we are moving closer toward ridiculous alternatives to abstinence.
