Rydel And Ellington: A Short Story
"Put it up for adoption, lay low for awhile and not tell our fans. We could do that... Couldn't we?" That's what the famous couple thought, but it didn't seem so simple in the end. What happened to them you ask? Well our story starts nine, almost 10, months back.

It wasn't a secret that Rydellington had past sexual encounters, they were pretty familiar with sex and had sex together a good few times. But the one time Ellington runs out of condoms during one of their many heated moments, Rydel is found a month later throwing up in the bathroom.

Like anyone who hadn't already been pregnant before, Rydel and Ellington brushed it off as her being sick. It was only a week after her first wave of morning sickness that Ellington had a feeling it was more than just the stomach flu when she asked for Sushi... and a big bottle of mustard. He had to talk to Rydel.

Almost 6 months into the pregnancy they had found a possible family for their child and met up with them. After everything went well, they agreed to having them as their child's adoptive parents and set up everything for the birth of the baby.

Months later, while Rydel was going over a new song, she went into labor and Ellington rushed her to the hospital, calling their child's future family on the way. It didn't take long till Rydel was laying on her hospital bed breathless from giving birth and he was there comforting her, both of them being too tired from everything to think straight.

As soon as her baby came out of her, they went to clean it up. But when it was all cleaned, dressed and wrapped up in a blanket, a nursed asked her if she wanted to see the baby one last time and Rydel slowly took it into her

This allows Anna to develop more confidence in her knowledge and become a stronger, more assertive woman. When Elinor calls for Anna's help to deliver Mary Daniel's child, she is at first hesitant to assist because her own mother died during childbirth when she was just four years old. Elinor insists, however, telling Anna that "You know a very great deal more than you think you do" and eventually, Anna gives in and prepares to deliver the baby, recalling memories from her own first confinement to help her. Anna tries not to think about the fact that she is about to "invade the body of a living woman", however she quickly overcomes this thought, and tries to "...quiet that part of my mind hammering away about modesty and violation." Although she is unsure of what she is doing, she acts as though she does, as she thinks it important that Mary sees her acting confidently. Once her hands were inside of Mary, however, it seemed as though her flesh "felt as familiar" to her as her own and Anna has little difficulty in helping her deliver the baby. Afterwards, they laughed and "for an hour, in that season of death," they celebrated a life. This particular event sees Anna developing a part of her that is confident and sure of her own knowledge and skills. Due to her experiences in birthing livestock, Anna is already equipped with the skills necessary to assist in childbirth but there exists a different part of her inside that is naturally gifted in midwifery and it is this part that truly allows her to shine and take control of what she can do thus leading her to discover her natural confidence and…

While reading the story delivering Lily, It is easy to tell that the author went through this experience personally. He recalled minor details such as the room the birth was in, who was with them before the birth, and the doctors directions that he heard on the phone. He seemed very into the moment, even more than the wife did. Author Phillip Lopate seemed overly tense from the moment the story started while his wife acted unexpectedly calm especially since she was the one about to give birth. While the husband was rushing to get out of the house to head to the hospital was taking her sweet time making sure the mums got watered before they left. This added drama to the story and made it far more interesting to read. This calm demeanor later changed for the wife when the birth started happening and she realized that she needed more painkillers than she already had and felt the immense pain of child birth causing her to scream incredibly for more drugs.…
