material. Another consideration as a teacher candidate that was taken into consideration was the clearness of my instructions. Instructions need to be clear and detailed for kindergarteners, so there is no confusion for the learners. The teacher candidate provided many examples of what was required from them during an activity when reviewing to ensure no confusion. After observing in the kindergartener classroom for a while now, as a teacher candidate, I understand the strengths and weaknesses of students. These strengths and weaknesses were taken into consideration when design the SMART board activities, which made this SMART board activity have many strengthens. The students will be able to interact with the SMART board four times, and the rest of the time the students will be in their students with a worksheet of what is on the SMART board. However once they are down with the SMART board the students will be able to volunteer, and come up to the SMART board again.
However, despite all the strengths of the SMART board lesson there were some weaknesses, such as the teacher candidate had trouble sometimes figuring out how to use some of the tools the SMART board had to offer with made some activities not as creative as the teacher candidate would like.
Other weakness about the SMART board activity was that for an instructional component, it would have been extremely beneficial for the students have them directions read to them, such as if I could voice over myself saying the directions. I did provide detail instructions and provide examples of what to do on the activity, but for a struggling readers this would not be as beneficial. When designing the review activities on the SMART board, as teacher candidate I felt it get repetitive at times, but the review was design to ensure the students had full comprehension of the material taught to them. Collaboration could have also been prevalent in the activities, majority of the activity require the students to work individual. However, despite some of the weakness in the SMART board activity, as teacher candidate, I believe the SMART board was effective, and formatively assessed the students’ knowledge in an effective way that promoted higher level learning. The review was also student driven with is an important component to students’
learning.
