Safe, Healthy, Learning Environment for Children: Safe Practices to Prevent and Reduce Injuries
Safe, Healthy, Learning Environment
To establish and maintain a safe, healthy learning environment My goal is to provide a safe environment and teach children safe practices to prevent and reduce injuries. To do this I check all toys and equipment that children will be using for broken or missing parts often to ensure they remain safe. I ensure all chemicals and cleaning products are stored in locked cabinets to prevent poisoning. I teach children how to use playground equipment safely to reduce the risk of injury. I am certified in first aid, CPR, and Infant CPR which makes me knowledgeable of caring for accidents or injuries. My goal is to provide an environment and practices that promote wellness and health. To do this I make sure children wash their hands upon arrival to cut down on germs being brought into the classrooms. I make sure all toys are sanitized daily to prevent the spread of germs. I wash my hands after helping children go to the bathroom or wipe noses. I wash my hands before applying gloves when serving food. I also make sure that all meals that are served meet USDA requirements. My goal is to create an enjoyable environment that encourages play, exploration, and learning. To accomplish this I provide a classroom schedule. I provide age appropriate activities that challenge children but not above their level. Provide lots of gross and fine motor activities inside and outside. Provide lots of books and writing materials and give children ample time to use them. I provide whole group, small group, and work one on one with children.

Creating a community in the classroom environment is the beginning for setting the child up for a successful year academically and socially for their development. Age appropriate resources are available everywhere in the classroom at the child’s access. Children should be able to depend on their classroom community by the consistency of guidance and schedule of routines that are present. By doing this I am able to provide that feeling of safety that is associated with predictability for children needs and expectations.…

To establish and maintain a safe, healthy learning environment I model safety practices and healthy routines in an environment that supports development and growth in these areas. My goal is to provide a clean healthy environment that meets each child’s physical needs. Making sure the classroom and playground are clean and safe at all times reduces the number of injuries of children while they are in my care. One of the ways I do this is by supervising children at all times by sight and sound even during nap times. Making sure all outlets are covered so children can’t access them. I make sure inside as well as outside there is nothing children can harm themselves on such as sharp objects or small items they can choke on. I ensure that all chemicals and cleaning supplies are put away out of the reach of children or stored in locked cabinets.
