Piero paints this tempera and oil on panel painting with great detail. Piero uses bold primary colors with an emphasis on cool blues and green and vibrant pops of reds, pinks and golds. This painting depicts Mary seated on a thrown with the Christ Child seated on her lap. The painting is very Symmetrical like many Italian paintings from this time. The bodies are quite stockey however they are hidden under voluminous robes. The Madonna and child surrounded by four saints, Saint Peter (top left), Saint Dominic (bottom left), Saint John (top right) and Saint Nicholas( bottom right). Saint peter is illustrated wearing a light blue undergarment with a golden outer robe draped over his left shoulder. Peter holds a key of extravagant size, in reference to the bible Matthew 16:19, "I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on Earth shall be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on Earth shall be loosed in heaven." Saint peter is faced towards the virgin and child with his hand placed on Saint Dominic’s back. Saint Dominic wears a white robe however they are only seen peeking out of the bottom of his black cloak. kneeling at the foot of Mary, Dominic is depicted staring up and the Christ child as baby Jesus blesses him. Directly above Mary is a golden eight pointed star with pearls inlaid in between each point. the Madonna wears her classic white veil and blue cloak, however she is also has on a rosey pink robe. Mary’s eyes are fixed on Saint Dominic and has her head cocked to the right. Mary's left hand is raised as a blessing towards Saint Dominic. On her lap is the Christ child who has his right hand raised in blessing and is looking down at the kneeling Saint
