Did you know that Sam Houston freed America from Mexico’s commands? Did you know that
Sam houston helped Texas be a state in the United States? Did you know that Sam Houston
became a president in Texas?Sam Houston, also known as “The Raven” which his indian tribe
gave him that name, was a very successful man in Texas history. He fought at the Alamo and
won Texas its independence.He made Texas free from Mexico and Santa Anna.
Sam Houston was a boy who loved to read but hated school. As days went by, he decided to
run away from home and he ended up joining an Indian tribe. That's where he got his nickname,
“The Raven.” Later on, he had to pay debt, so he returned and started teaching children.

It doesn’t
seem like a far journey, but trust me, it surely was! He spent days trying to get to San Antonio.
On the day that he did, boy, was there a lot of war! He helped out by bringing more men to fight,
but was the men he brought enough? Antonio Lopez De Santa Anna and the Mexicans defeated
the Texans in The Alamo. But was that the end of it? I think NOT! Ok, here is another important
and interesting part; The Battle Of San Jacinto. The Battle of San Jacinto was a very important
battle because the Texans won this battle and got its independence.
Sam Houston lead this and came and surprised the Mexicans with a surprise attack.
In Sam’s latest days, he had a specific and favorite oak tree that he would sit in a chair and
would use the shade. Unfortunately, he passed away due to Pneumonia on July twenty sixth,
eighteen sixty three. Sam Houston was not just any random person who came into this world to
do nothing. He lead The Battle Of San Jacinto. He helped in the Alamo. He became Texas’
president for two years. He made Texas a state in the U.S. He made Texas
