Dear Mr. Anderson,
As a Business Management and Operations student at Washington State University and also a future military dependent, I have a strong desire to research and consolidate a comprehensive list of information useful for military families enduring a permanent change of station move (PCS move) from Pearl Harbor Naval Base in Hawaii, to San Diego Naval Base in California.
From what I have found so far, there seems to be a lack of detailed information available for these

I will obtain my primary research through my survey and interviewing of military members and their families directly, as well as contacting the resources available to military members and their families for questioning. As for secondary research, I will use the online and printed information provided from the government directly as well as written testimonials and discussions for reference. I will also use research that has been made from other students or scholars who have conducted research on this topic or similar ones.
Although I will find that my secondary research will prove to be helpful, the majority of my focus during my research will stem from the response I receive from those I survey and interview directly. I believe that the response I receive from the honest conversations with fellow military families will prove to be the most helpful for me in guiding the focus of my research. With the use of social media as a tool, I believe I will not only be able to reach people who I know personally that could provide me with good feedback, but I can also reach people I do not know through exclusive social media groups such as “Oahu Military Spouses,” and “San Diego Military Spouses,” etc., which both contain over 1,000 members (increasing daily) if they could answer the survey I have created as well as provide any feedback they may have for

“The tools for secondary research are essentially, gathering and selecting relevant material for the research. Traditionally, the sources of secondary information were research books, research reports, journal articles, scientific journal, and critiques of literary works and narratives of historical events” (Alred, et. al., 2006, Pg.13). Government publications, universities journals and consumer reports are the powerful sources of secondary information. Both qualitative and quantitative information is available from secondary sources. For example one of the important sources of quantitative secondary data is the US Bureau of Economic Analysis.…

The US Army is like any other business; they are in constant need of new and fresh employees or Soldiers. The US Army for almost ten years now has stretched, bent and broken some of their own recruiting rules in order to keep up with the demands of the wars. Now that the wars are coming to an end, they have started to realize that all the rules that have been stretched, bent and broken really need to be in place. First I will summarize the recruitment of the U.S. Army and then I will discuss what ethical research practices should be avoided in this project. Next I will cover what parties involved in the research could face injury and what injuries could occur. Then I will go over how unethical behavior in this research affects the organization, the individual and society. Lastly I will discuss whether the unethical behavior could be monitored or resolved if it is found to be occurring.…

I wanted to follow-up on the intake paperwork for the youth in care. You explained yesterday of being in training, however we can not have the youth in the home without: intake documents, school information, personal items and medication. The foster parent is a big advocate of children going to school and having all necessary belongings at placement. I also emailed the MUSC Foster Support Clinic packet to get D. Wilson set up with an appointment for medication management and individual therapy sooner than later. I would like to avoid any possibility of another disruption for D. Wilson.…

It’s inevitable that this must be hard on you, considering you don’t support my decision to join the war, but I’ll have you know that this dreadful place has me missing you all that much more. The fact that you are trying to understand, while being a French Canadian, really shows what an inspirational women you truly are. My passionate tie to Britain persuaded me to join the war, and there was no way I could pass up the opportunity to show my appreciation for our mother country. Training camp in Val Cartier was nothing I was prepared for. The British had high expectations for us Canadian Soldiers, expectations that we weren’t able to live up to while entering the training camp. None of us had much training or experience, this forced Britain to crack the whip and become very strict. Our training was very unusual and unexpected; we seemed to do a lot of aerobic-like exercises that took all of us by surprise. We have just conquered Vimy Ridge. This is the first battle that we have been able to act together. It is truly a defining moment for our country, we are finally able to rise from the shadows of Britain and realize the greatness we are capable of achieving. We were given a new Canadian Corps commander named Sir William Byng; he has done a miraculous job helping us capture this difficult position by carefully planning and rehearsing the attack. Although there was nearly ten thousand men killed and wounded, it was worth is to capture the land where there is no such thing as a surprise attack. There is no way to describe to you what it’s like here. I wake up from nightmares relieved that it’s over, until I finally realize that reality is much worse. There is no feeling insurmountable to those I’ve faced. The only thing keeping me going is the thought of home. You’d expect the battle field to be where the real horror is, but there is nothing…

The military and surrounding communities are doing several types of research on the effect of PTSD along with several types of types of support and treatments for all affected. I would like to focus on the reassurance that the soldiers won't be reprimanded for mentioning the possibility of PTSD to heighten the chance more compliance and speaking out. We have only moved twice during my husband's military career. We lived in the Fayetteville area the first 16 years, moved to Florida for three years and moved Fayetteville area going on two years now. When my husband deployed his fifth tour to Afghanistan we had only been at our new duty station for about nine months (just as a reminder we never moved not once and we always had family close by). My children and I joined a group called Deployed Spouse Group (DSG) that met every Monday night. The chaplain and his wife lead the program. We would eat, meet and play games. The food was provided because it allows the families to eat (mother don't have to cook; so they can come to meeting along with free childcare), the Chaplain or his wife would correlate a story or sermon like that pertains to what we may be going through and they also would ask for suggestions for the…

I hope all is well at home. Tell everyone that I miss them very much. I managed to find some paper to write on so I can send you this letter. It’s cold and rainy often here and they haven’t blown the whistle in a while. I have been in the trenches for nearly a month with the British troops. It feels like I have been here for years. “I am preparing to go to the front and I am only sorry that I did not see you all before I went but then mother dear do not lose heart, I may come back again. And mother dear, do have courage. I will be alright, there are thousands of other mothers and relatives in the same circumstances and if I do die I will die with a good heart and all your love upon my lips.”1 I’m hungry all the time because food is scarce. Even when we get food, it is awful. The bread is so raw and dry that sometimes I do not even bother eating it. “This is a place to be in, we have to fight like tigers to get our food here soon as ever it comes up… some get a lot and some don’t get any. If we have money it is a hard job to spend it, if you go the coffee shop or canteen, you have to wait about two hours before it is your turn to be served. If I get through this lot, no more for me.”2 War is definitely not what I expected it to be. Death and disease is all around me and the naïve, glorious thoughts I had about war have now disappeared. “Piles of bodies lie next to me at all times, wounded, dead, or even men…

Hello Mother, military camp is going just fine. The trainer I have is great and has enforced the rules well and clearly. I am taught to withstand pain, answer in a few words, only speak when I am spoken to, respect elders, obey orders, and eat little. We also can steal food, but if caught then we will be wipped. We play games at camp too. You are allowed to bite, punch, and kick. Not all the games we play are rough as that though. If we give up and run then were called coward and we would get in trouble. The sleeping brackets are not as comfy as the ones at home, but I’ll live. They send us one at a time into the woods to live without food. I would have to scavenge or steal. Well, nothing else is new around here.…
